Alexis Bittar

It was on the streets of Soho that Alex Bittar started selling his costume jewelry, a humbling beginning that finally paid off in the end. Today, his Broome street boutique displays his lovely creations. His favored material is Lucite, a clear acrylic plastic, in tints of pink and blue. Crystal and stone earrings make a case for statement jewelry without running the risk of overwhelming the wearer. Slim studded bangles are made to be stacked, but if you’re more into one piece or none at all, we recommend the flower Lucite cuffs. Spikes and gunmetal rings are a good balance to the feminine overtones, with gold tiered earrings and necklaces that provide the right hint of edge. Definitely worth a splurge. Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
