Aedes de Venustas

Nestled at the intersection of Christopher St. and W. 9th St. is one of New York’s most opulent dens of olfactory gratification. Since opening in 1995, Aedes de Venustas has garnered a reputation for being the place A-list celebrities and fashion icons head to sate their scent-ual longings. Disdain for sterile modernist commercial aesthetics led owners Karl Bradl and Robert Gerstner to develop an idiosyncratic décor several orders of magnitude beyond cozy. The place simply exudes class. Dark wood tables and chests rise from a deep burgundy carpet, offset by lighter tones, candles under glass domes, and charming displays. Among the stock are a meticulously crafted assortment of fragrances—many of them difficult to find elsewhere—as well as skin care and bath and body products. Gerstner and Bradl also developed an Aedes house line of fragrances in collaboration with L’artisan Parfumeur that received rave reviews. Aedes’ philosophy is to indulge the senses. Thus, customer service is as exquisitely tasteful as the products they sell. Besides personal consultations, the store’s generous samples and fancy gift packages are works of art on their own. If you've an inclination to pamper your nose, stop on by. Show lessRead more
