Tim Bryars Ltd.

Located on Covent Garden’s Cecil Court – a bastion of London’s antiquarian book trade – Tim Bryars Ltd. deals in an array of rare maps, atlases and prints whose provenances span a period of some 500 years. Bearing in mind Christopher Columbus discovered America in 1492, that means that some of the original maps on sale at Tim Bryars date all the way back to the epic age of global exploration. Understandably, given the age and rarity of some of the intricate maps, prices can run high. However, if you’re after something more affordable, you can find more modestly priced items for as little as ten pounds. The shop stocks modern decorative maps and prints as well as ancient items from maps of London printed just after the Great Fire to 16th century editions of the Greek and Latin classics or first editions by Wilkie Collins or Tolkien. A celebration of the topographic talents of history’s master mapmakers, the collection at Tim Bryars is worth scoping out – especially for those with a passion for cartography.Show lessRead more
