The Folio Society

While tablets mean that people are increasingly turning to the electronic page, there are some publishers who maintain that beauty still remains in the physical form of the book. The Folio Society has been selling finely assembled, special editions of classic titles since 1947. Originally only selling to members, the company has since opened itself up to the public. Selling through its own store in Bloomsbury (along with a select few others) it sees itself as a place where great literary content is reflected in the physical form of the humble book. The small library-like shop sells the vast majority of its self-published works. Each Folio Society book is a limited edition hardback, created using traditional printing and binding techniques. Without a doubt, these books make great gifts. From Vonnegut and Capote to Dickens and Shakespeare, The Folio Society takes the text and adds original forewords and illustrations to create an object of desire that will live on longer than any tablet on the market. Show lessRead more
