‘Stuff we love that you’ll love too’ reads the sign inside Pedlars, which spells out the store’s philosophy. Launched first as a mail-order business in 1997 before graduating to permanent premises in Notting Hill, Pedlars is the home ware and design baby of owners Charlie and Caroline Gladstone. Pedlars’ vast range of contemporary and vintage home ware, lighting, prints, bags and knitwear leave it feeling like a miniaturised department store of good taste. That undeniable taste comes from both Charlie and Caroline, who take the approach that if they’d have it in their home, then they’ll stock it at Pedlars. In which case, we can only assume that the Gladstone’s home is filled with Bellingham bags, Breton jumpers, Lock & Co. hats and reconditioned bulkhead lamps stripped from decommissioned ships. Pedlars is a playground for adults where instead of swings and slides you’ll find original London bus blinds, Duralex glassware and patchwork quilts to make you happy.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
