Paxton & Whitfield

With locations in London, Stratford upon Avon and Bath, Paxton and Whitfield has been one of Britain's most lauded cheesemongers for over two centuries. In 1850, Paxton and Whitfield became the official cheesemonger to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, while Winston Churchill once said that this is where “a gentleman buys his cheese.” That may have been some time (and several renovations) ago, but this charming shop still isn't lacking for prestigious customers; wholesale clients include Harrods and Harvey Nichols. Not that you have to take their word for it. The next time you're in the Piccadilly Circus vicinity, keep an eye out for the black and gold facade of Paxton and Whitfield's oldest branch on Jermyn Street. Inside, you'll find a smartly-dressed clientele and a selection of over 150 different cheeses from the U.K. and all over Europe. In addition to offering several artisanal cheeses from small-farm productions, Paxton and Whitfield also have an impressive catalogue of other fine foods–from biscuits to pates. Paxton and Whitfield even sell their own brand of champagne, which is made specifically to be enjoyed with cheese. If you've been waiting for an excuse to enjoy a glass of bubbly with a crumbly chunk of Stilton, wait no more.Show lessRead more
