Pages of Hackney

Ever since opening in 2008, Pages of Hackney has been a sturdy fixture on London’s literary scene. From its location on Lower Clapton Road, it delivers a well-curated range of books varying from contemporary fiction and travel, to local history and photography. As Hackney bookshops go, Pages punches well beyond its weight – the store is veritably dainty – with monthly author events and signings commonplace. Fantasy fiction writer China Miéville has graced the shop along with the likes of Iain Sinclair and Alain de Botton. With its basement undergoing a transformation into a second hand section, Pages will soon have even more to offer explorers searching for out of print titles and bargain books. With super-hip Chatsworth Road and its weekend market just around the corner, it is more that worth making a trip to peruse Pages.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
