La Fromagerie

Patricia Michelson’s love affair with cheese began after a skiing holiday in the Alps. Returning to London with a wheel of Beaufort Chalet d’Alpage in her suitcase, she soon began selling the mountain cheese from her garden shed. Graduating from backyard to Camden market stall, the journey was then completed in 1992 when La Fromagerie opened its doors in Highbury Park. Now there are two locations, with a second store in Marylebone, and the passion for the cheese remains unspoiled. La Fromagerie boasts maturing cellars in both its stores as well as kitchens, which make and serve soups, jams, chutneys and salads. The farmhouse cheeses are selected almost exclusively from Europe, although you’ll find Oregon’s dazzling, Rogue River Blue, stocked in the signature walk-in cheese rooms. Seasonal fruit and vegetables, baked breads and olive oil supplement the cheeses - and vitally, there’s wine too. So, whether you’re opting for Dutch Gouda, a Devon Blue or Italian Gorgonzola, there’ll be someone on hand to help match it to the correct vino. Cheese and wine: if heaven were a store, it would surely be La Fromagerie.Show lessRead more
