J. Glinert

When he found retail space available in a building on Hackney’s Wilton Way close to where he grew up, local resident Tom Budding set about breathing new life into the old place. Selling a handpicked variety of everyday household objects and stationery, J. Glinert is like a modern, stylized take on the old home and hardware stores of the past. Like a fully operational art installation, the shop’s overall appearance is as beautiful as the products sold within it – of which there are many. Glass paperweights, light mills and gold mist sprayers are just a few of the decorative items available, while pocket fountain pens, Nigerian hand brooms and mechanical toothpaste squeezers will inject more than a little pizzazz into everyday chores. Working as an art technician while running J. Glinert, Budding funnels his inspiration back into the shop. A well-curated range of artists’ books lines two walls of shelving and subjects include anything from Hackney Houses to Japanese ceramics. Both useful and practical, the products here are also desirable, delicate and collectable. Neither vintage nor heritage, the word for J. Glinert’s range is timeless.Show lessRead more
