English heritage brand Grenson provides Londoners with just about every style of footwear one could imagine. Established in 1866, Grenson can draw on a mammoth archive of iconic moulds from Chelsea boots, stitched Oxfords, and Derby boots to contemporary penny loafers and wing tip brogues - all available in its locations near Brick Lane and The City. Grenson is an institution, its shoes having been donned by some true pioneers of style, including Dazed and Confused creative director, Jefferson Hack and Paul Simonon of The Clash. Heritage is vitally important to Grenson’s image.  However, current owner and CEO, Tim Little, has added an edge of directional-design since taking the reins. Think white, Vibram soles and high-top brogues, which have attracted a whole new generation to the brand. Although the stores are largely focused on men, a fledgling range for women is taking off. One thing everyone will get with a visit to Grenson is that traditional English shop service. The salespeople are footwear pedants, so if you can’t find the right fit here, then good luck.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
