For many, the world of lifestyle design stores is a tricky place to navigate if both style and sustainability are of equal importance. For these shoppers, London has found a solution in the form of Folklore, the shop in Angel that believes in following an ethical approach. Established by husband and wife team Danielle and Rob Reid in 2012, the whitewashed store is a testament to what they call ‘mindful design’. Whether it’s Mark O’Brien’s cardboard ornaments or the magnificent salvaged wood cabinet from Hendzel and Hunt, each product seems to have enjoyed (or at least lived) a previous life. The hunt for pieces that dovetail with the Folklore ethos is understandably involved but it means that the store boasts an impressively original and eclectic range. Crocheted lampshades, cardboard shoes and porcelain milk bottles all make the grade. In Folklore’s own words, they believe that “better living is possible through design” – after a visit you might be inclined to agree.Show lessRead more
