Daunt Books

If eBooks, iPads and Kindles leave you weeping for the printed page then the nostalgia drenched Daunt Books is the place for you. Housed in an original Edwardian bookshop since 1989, the Marylebone branch of Daunt is as it might have been a hundred years ago. The long oak galleries bring to mind the British Library and the William Morris prints could be on loan from the V&A museum – the halls of Hogwarts and Harry Potter come to mind. Specializing in travel, Daunt organizes by country of origin rather than subject, which creates an eclectic browsing experience. Poetry might be found alongside travel guides and cookbooks next to philosophy. Daunt houses a wide selection of fiction and children’s books along with an unusual collection of translations and rarities that set it apart. Browsing a well curated collection of books is a great pleasure, and nowhere is that more apparent than amongst Daunt’s grand aisles.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
