Even with its charming selection of independents, it still comes as a slight surprise to find a modern concept store such as Darkroom on the traditional Lamb’s Conduit Street. However Darkroom’s historic location is very much in keeping with its mission statement of breaking boundaries and merging old and new disciplines of design. Opened in 2009, the store is a bold, modern retailer. Overlapping art and design, Darkroom stocks a meandering collection of products from woolen cushions and leather laptop sleeves, to tote bags and jade earrings. The store explores alternative cultures and movements, which on this occasion is evident in its range of modernist ceramics from the ‘Stolen From De Stijl’ collection. The sleek, sultry interior will appeal to the curious shopper. Big labels are rejected in favor of adding products from the best craftspeople and creative designers to the store. Part retail space, part gallery, whether you’re looking for sustainable luggage from Veja or the intricate mix of a rope and bead necklace by Florian – Darkroom is bound to intrigue.Show lessRead more
