Bryan Poole

While the word ‘tropical’ may not be the first word that comes to mind when thinking of London’s East End, Bryan Poole’s studio manages to deliver an abundance of lively color to the area with his intricate etchings of exotic flora. Originally hailing from New Zealand, Poole became a resident of Hackney long before the chic cafes and galleries moved into the neighborhood. Transplanting his workspace from his house to a converted air raid shelter on Wilton Way, it has become what he describes as a ‘curiosity shop’. Combining a technique of copperplate etchings developed in the 16th century with an eye for modern design and coloring, Poole’s work has been purchased by the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in Washington DC and is exhibited every year at the world famous Chelsea Flower Show due to the reputation for detailed accuracy in his depictions. He is considered one of the top talents in his field, and a visit to his studio presents an incredible opportunity to witness the artist at work.Show lessRead more
