Beach

When a drunken conversation turns to the topic of setting up a gallery and art lifestyle store it is usually forgotten by the time the sun comes up. However, in the case of friends Charlie Hood and Matt Lucas, just this was the inspiration to follow through and establish Beach London in the heart of Brick Lane. Open since 2011, Beach is a platform of sorts from which both established and up-and-coming illustrators and designers can showcase and sell work. The range of screen-prints, books, zines, magazines, toys and clothing makes Beach more than just a gallery. The store host bi-weekly Thursday night events at which you’re just as likely to find a ping pong table set up in the gallery space as you are an artist’s private viewing – it is a hub for creativity. Beach’s eclectic exhibitions have featured famous names like James Jarvis along with exciting artists like Sister Arrow and Tom Edwards. Anybody who appreciates the DIY punk aesthetic prevalent in self-publishing and skate art will have a good time at the Beach.Show lessRead more
