Atsuko Kudo

Japanese latex designer Atsuko Kudo is not only a major name in the fetish industry but also a prominent figure in the world of high fashion. Her reputation was sealed in 2009 when Lady Gaga wore one of her latex gowns to meet Queen Elizabeth II. The resulting photograph of the unlikely duo swiftly made headlines - and intriguingly also formed part of the Queen’s private photo collection in Windsor Castle. Kudo’s eponymous North London boutique was already a latexwear store before she took the helm in 2008 and has since attracted numerous visitors from across the globe. As well as feminine dresses, designs include brightly colored bodices, berets and wedding hats together with more racy items such as underwear, stockings, masks and nipple tassels. Although one may associate latex clothing with a niche market, Kudo’s clients range from teenagers to pensioners in their late seventies. The shop also attracts many celebrities looking for something to wear to a premiere – once even a woman wearing a full burka purchased one of Kudo’s garments for her daughter’s wedding night. As the company’s managing director explains, “we can never predict who will walk through the door.”Show lessRead more
