Atelier Abigail Ahern

This plush little jewel box of a store was founded in 2003 by Abigail Ahern, an internationally renowned designer and author of ‘A Girl’s Guide to Decorating’. As one might expect, the ‘atelier’ itself provides a playful glimpse into Ahern’s stylish yet offbeat world and is a great place to pick up some design inspiration. The store’s many eccentric ornaments and accessories are sourced from all over the world, and include grumpy gargoyles made out of granite and sandstone, marble replicas of clenched fists which act as flower vases, as well as a large zebra head fashioned from thousands of beads. Abigail also designs some of the objects in the store herself, such as the beguiling lampstands of pooches and pelicans in glazed terracotta, each crowned with a frilly ‘frou frou’ shade for comic effect. The bright and whimsical accessories are contrasted with classical pieces of furniture that wouldn’t look out of place in a professor’s study, as well as beautiful velvet and leather cushions and luxurious Merino wool throws. There is also a stunning array of faux flowers which greet you as you enter the store - a chorus of roses, peonies and hydrangeas which, although they obviously carry no scent, don’t fail to lift the spirits.Show lessRead more
