Beautiful objects from the Far East and the near north is how Laura Huppert describes the unique assortment of products on sale at her Prenzlauer Berg shop, Ting. Household items and accessories are in greatest supply, including little hairclips from Japan, blankets from Norway, a desk from Denmark and sweets from Thailand. The store owner makes regular trips to Scandinavia and Asia to keep her supply fresh and well-stocked. Nearly every piece is hand picked or even special-made to sell at Ting. Laura Huppert found her inspiration for the shop while living in China and travelling through Japan. „Only in Asia you can find shops which are in themselves pieces of art - the way everything is arranged and decorated. Each piece is so lovingly chosen,“ she remembers. And she has certainly managed to create a shop that invites people to linger and slowly discover the exotic and original products. She also sells organic fruit juices from Denmark for those in need of a little refreshment while browsing.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
