The Recordstore

The Recordstore celebrates the golden age of vinyl with an emphasis on releases from the 1950s to 1970s. Classic rock, jazz, alternative, soul, funk, folk and world music are all well represented in the eclectic collection. Owner Thorsten Dobberstein, a die-hard vinyl fan with a lifelong passion for music, established the store in 2004 to offer special collector's items alongside re-releases and a wide range of second-hand 45 and 33 rpm 12"s and 7"s. Strong relationships with private collectors and regular trips to the US ensure that the selection in stock is second to none. Adorning the walls of the Mitte store is a gallery-like arrangement of classic sleeve artwork which, in addition to the rustic wooden cabinets and old-fashioned player, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The film soundtrack selection is sure to delight cinephiles as well as those looking to grow their vinyl collection. Hosting the occasional gig and unplugged session, The Recordstore isn't just about retail - it's a community.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
