Motto Berlin

From it's origins as a Swiss distributor of small specialist magazines and fanzines, Motto has grown into a shop with a small family of art bookshops offering a fascinating array of more than 3000 titles. The Berlin branch is hidden away in a courtyard just off Skalitzer Strasse in the Kreuzberg-Friedrichhain area. Alexis Zavialoff heads the store and associated distribution company, supplying over 150 publishers to stores worldwide. Motto took over the premises of a frame manufacturer and the former showroom is furnished with dark wood, brass fittings and display cabinets now stocked with artist monographs, periodicals and books on art theory. The range of titles give the sort of selection you usually only encounter at international art fairs and galleries. Motto regularly sets up shop at these events and one of their permanent locations is Kunsthalle Basel. With the possibility to order back issues of magazines, limited edition and experimental books, and the regular evening events, film screenings and talks, Motto encourages discussion around art, design, photography, and typography. This is a haven for the switched-on book collector.Show lessRead more
