Lost your culinary inspiration? Wish you had time to try a new recipe? The idea behind Kochhaus is to make it easier for you. Instead of studying a recipe book you can walk into one! Dorothee Karsch worked on the idea with three friends who enjoyed cooking together. They wanted to provide a shopping experience that was easy for people who work late but don't want to eat pre-packaged or ready-meal-type supermarket food. So you can walk into Kochhaus, see what looks good and pick up just the right amount of each ingredient to create an ideal dinner.  Kochhaus collaborates with a number of cooks to make sure new recipes are constantly available. They cover a variety of cuisines and excel at the Mediterranean style. You can also take part in their popular cooking courses, shop for kitchenware, books and special ingredients. Kochhaus also provides a great space for private dinners and parties. The first Kochhaus opened in 2010 in Schoeneberg and in 2011 the Prenzlauer Berg branch followed, and with two more locations in Hamburg, Kochhaus keeps supplying more of the hungry masses.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
