Friedrichslust is tucked away in the backyard of what used to be a tapestry factory on Schönhauser Allee. The name Friedrichslust is derived from Friedrich, who is one of the owners, and the German word for delight. And what a delight it is to rummage through the beautiful and curious pieces here, like the baroque era wardrobe, a wooden nun with a flaming heart, a chaise lounge straight out of a Freudian therapist’s office and a child’s skeleton from the 1920s standing under a bell jar. Friedrich Schreiber is on a constant quest for unique objects and furniture for his store. But mere trade is not enough for him. So he creates mystical sculptures from birch bark also sold at Friedrichslust. He calls them ‘forest gods’ as an homage to his former home in the midst of the wilderness in Northern Germany. Co-owner Uwe Mozedlani is a fashion addict and collects pieces from designers all over Europe. He also makes his own range of shirts, skirts, trousers for men and women which are crafted from military clothing and vintage hand-woven linen. Surprise is the only constant in this shop of wonders.Show lessRead more
