Civilist's name is a nod to the freedom from military drafting the store's two founders were afforded when they were growing up in former West Berlin. Alex Flach and Andreas Hesse worked together at Lodown magazine and were involved in the skateboarding scene as the city opened up after 1989. The shop's pared back interior at their Mitte emporium showcases their own label, plus carefully chosen brands such as PAM, HUF, Palace, Norse and Nike SB. You'll find art publications, magazines and books about Berlin alongside hardwearing jackets, fresh tees and stylish sneakers. The store often hosts exhibitions and lively product launches – in collaboration with Vans Syndicate they produced a special edition shoe tailored and adapted to the Berlin skate environment. Since history is important to the Civilist founders, they created videos and designed their own Berlin sew-on patches, similar to soldier's arm bands, to pay homage to the history of skating in the city. For anyone into streetwear, Civilist is an essential stop.Show lessRead more
