Bibliotheca Culinaria

Two avid cookbook collectors opened Bibliotheca Culinaria when their 25-year strong personal collection of vintage volumes grew too extensive for their living room. Unique in Germany, the shop occupies a basement space on Zehdenicker Strasse on the border of Mitte and Prenzlauer Berg. Mostly written in German, the books feature cuisines from around the world and date from the 1600s to today, with many from the 1950s and ‘60s. An expert on his inventory, the owner is happy to point to some particularly tasty tidbits of life advice to be read between the lines of the manuals. The novelty and choice here really drive the imagination, from an 1876 edition of the cult Davidis cookbook to a French volume from 1730 and a manual dedicated to surviving on foraged food after the war. The warm welcome and relaxed attitude make the shop a pleasant place to peruse, where it's possible to find, side-by-side, cult classics from a specific era and one-of-a-kind tomes you never knew existed.Show lessRead more
