Entering the specialist tea shop Benjowski is like walking into an exquisite emporium. The shop was established by Mr. Benjowski in 1991 and reflects years' worth of research trips to Asia. His collection is based on different philosophies that encourage community, well-being and kindness as found in global tea cultures. Mr. Benjowski takes great pride in building relationships with tea producers and in “bringing unique tea to the people” - teas that are auctioned seasonally and only available at his store. Jars holding rare and specialist teas are stacked to the ceiling in country specific sections including India, Nepal, Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Tea varieties include Nilgiri (frozen tips or "frost" tea), Yerba Mate (the popular South American beverage) and Pu Erh (a rare Chinese tea). Artisanal ceramics hand crafted by Alexandre Leroux are presented in a glass cabinet and are fundamental to the tea-drinking ethos of using the earth’s materials rather than chemically manufactured cups. Nineteenth century antique vessels from different parts of the globe add to this notion, where each one is a relic from an ancient tea culture. There’s no need to travel the world after one visit to Benjowski’s – you can sample an authentic taste of myriad cultures in one shop!Show lessRead more
