Atelier Akeef

Atelier Akeef puts sustainability firmly in fashion with it's beautiful Mitte location. The modest shop's interior is created almost entirely from recycled and sustainable materials. Subtle dusky gray clay render sets off sage green and rich red salvaged wood wall coverings. Hanging from ropes or nestling next to green ferns, everything selected to appear in store contributes something positive to the world. The great attention to detail and provenance by buyer Michael Ashley make it easy to discover new brands. His neat labeling system means that you can easily inform yourself about every product in stock. A simple tick list tells you that those Kings of Indigo jeans you have your eye on are recycled and organic, and that the deep red belt you thought could be some sort of animal skin is actually derived from up-cycled fireman's hose. Even their classic woollen jumpers are sourced from heritage brand Johnsons of Elgin, which promotes ethical practice and donates to charity. Since Akeef moved from Kreuzberg in 2013 and partnered with designer Davide Graziole, the range of products has grown. Now accessories, lifestyle products and toiletries - all selected for their simple effectiveness and eco credentials - complement the denim, shirts, underwear and outerwear.Show lessRead more

As chain stores fill the streetscape the world over, this project is a celebration of the independent retailer. All stores featured on Shopikon have been hand-picked by our editors who have visited thousands of stores, and only the best of the bunch make it into our guide. We evaluate stores based on product selection, atmosphere, dedication to their specialty, and overall shopping experience, making sure that they are all worth your trip!
