A. D. Deertz

In 2009 the flagship store of A.D. Deertz opened on Berlin's Torstrasse, giving a permanent base to the work of traveling designer Wiebke Deertz. Behind a striking entrance that recalls an illuminated Mondrian painting you will find thoughtful and unpretentious menswear featuring unique fabrics and production processes from as far as Bolivia, Bangkok and Ethiopia all in a decidedly relaxed atmosphere. On display is a comprehensive collection of the designer's work in the form of trousers, shirts, tees, sweaters, jackets, belts, bags and more alongside conversation pieces such as bamboo baseball caps or traditional Vietnamese scissors. Other offerings such as Howlin Irish knitwear and Namibian Kudu boots find their way into the mix. The stock of each design is limited based on the amount of fabric Deertz sources on her travels. Pieces are inspired by the people she meets and her regular clients back in Berlin rather than dictated by the fashion industry. Deertz recently collaborated with the electronic musicians Modeselektor and her unique way of working has attracted a following. The distinctive style especially suits the discerning and down to earth Berlin Gentleman.Show lessRead more
