Meublé

Seeing a gap in the market between vintage designer furniture and affordable, quirky pieces for a younger crowd, Catalan entrepeneur Claudia set up shop in a quiet side street of the bohemian Gracia district early in 2012. Just a stone’s throw from the busy thoroughfare of Gran de Gracia, Meublé is an eclectic combination of fifties rattan armchairs, stripped wooden cupboards, chic coffee tables, antique tins and delicate glass tea-sets. Much of the furniture has been salvaged from house sales, Encants Vells flea market and even the streets, with Claudia tweaking tired pieces with a new lick of paint or upholstery. The interior style here has a soft spot for kitsch and is artfully arranged, clearly reflecting Claudia’s background in fashion design. Meublé satisfies the burgeoning trend in Barcelona for one-of-a-kind pieces that embody a stylish yet unpretentious lifestyle. “Young people want to express their individuality today more so than ever. Why go to Ikea for something mass-produced when you can come here and find something timeless that nobody else has, for a similar price?” In today’s urban climate, Meublé exemplifies a generation of creative entrepreneurs looking to the past for fresh inspiration.Show lessRead more
