Fantastik is a bazaar for the bizarre, a singular treasure trove of tchotchkes from 20 countries, including India, Mexico, Senegal, Portugal, East Germany and Japan. Owner Juanra Esteban originally opened shop in the Barri Gòtic in 2005, before moving to the Raval in 2009. An avid traveller, Juanra wanted his store to bring together some of the most intriguing items he encountered on his worldwide wanderings. These days Fantastik's inventory boasts hundreds of objects that, it is safe to say, aren't featured together anywhere else on the planet. This is definitely the only place where you'll find Bulgarian kitchenware alongside smutty Mexican comic books, alarm clocks from Dubai sharing shelf space with Indian bicycle accessories (although...), or a menagerie of South African plastic animals in the same room as a toothbrush-holder from Iran. You get the idea. Not to sound overly didactic, but in a world where one increasingly encounters the same stuff everywhere, it's great when stores like Fantastik offer some much needed diversity.Show lessRead more
