El Recibidor

Pinball tournaments, costume competitions, vermouth and the most original vintage furniture in northern Spain. That’s what happened when two ad agency art directors and a “mad vintage guy” came together to realize their shared love of retro in 2013. Partly inspired by the ‘70s stylings of the Spanish short film “My Father is Björn Borg,” Gerard, Antonio and Jorge set up a vintage furniture store and filled it with beautifully restored Nordic-style ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s pieces imported from England. Or, in other words, “Stuff we like to be around.” Taking a gamble, they chose a space in Sant Antoni, then watched as the neighbourhood flourished with restaurants, boutiques and the trappings associated with the hip new place to be in Barcelona. The store’s name translates to “The Entrance,” and is named after “the first thing you see when you enter a house.” Designed with a homely, yet minimal feel in mind (with a touch of art gallery and rock n’ roll hangout thrown in), the retro aficionados celebrate new deliveries of classic sideboards, rare one-offs and limited edition hi-fi equipment with in-store events - and a vinyl soundtrack as classy as the decor. Not to mention the old-school Dirty Harry pinball machine. Game. Over.Show lessRead more
