Amato Sole

If it hadn’t already garnered cult status and substantial press coverage, you probably wouldn’t stumble across Amato Sole. Since 2010, Sicilian-born Anna Maria Amato and Barcelona-bred Ramón Sole have been designing and constructing furniture from their workshop/showroom. Originally located in Raval, the couple relocated in 2012 to a quiet residential street in the Gracia district. “There's something honest about working with organic materials, especially when they have aged. They have more personality,” says Sole, leaning against one of their coffee-tables - an antique leather suitcase with legs. “We source wood, pieces of iron, interesting objects and broken lamps from wherever we can and breathe new life into them.” The couple makes many pieces to order and have furnished several Barcelona restaurants with their down to earth, rustic style, notably Suculent in Raval. Sole loves to experiment with Surrealist ideas while his background in industrial design from Barcelona University helps with the technicalities of furniture conception. Anna Maria’s education in architecture and love of interior design means that finished pieces are always pared-down to ensure a sense of simplicity. Visitors always feel at home here and it is clear that Amato Sole’s collaboration has produced a style unique to Barcelona, yet universally appealing for its sense of modesty and decorum.Show lessRead more
