This is a view of Alexandra Palace, the famous landmark and music venue located in the borough of Haringey in north London. It was originally built in 1873, but following a fire was re-opened in 1875. Nicknamed “The People’s Palace”, it hosted the world’s first regular television broadcast by the BBC in 1936.
Over the years it has been the venue for concerts by rock groups such as Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, Stone Roses, Blur and Suede as well as the venue for darts and snooker tournaments, conferences and an ice rink. Another major fire in 1980 caused extensive damage but has since been restored. The building’s commanding hilltop location makes it a dominant landmarks for miles around and a magnificent panorama of London can be seen from its southern terrace.
