Lotte näht is the brainchild of Gabi Wagner, a former kindergarten teacher and graduate of Vienna's University of Applied Arts. Combining her knowledge of children with her background as a seamstress and designer, Wagner manufactures high-quality toys, as well as accessories and clothing for both young and old. The toy selection includes a menagerie of stuffed animals, from dinosaur to donkey. While some of her animals are meant simply for play, many of Wagner's nifty creations have multiple uses, like the chicken that doubles as a neck pillow. For inspiration, Wagner never needs to look beyond her home–much of what she has learned about making products for children comes from observing her son Ferdinand. Everything sold at Lotte näht, from the understated T-shirts for men to the floral-print tote bags for women, is produced locally. In fact, visitors to this charming boutique in the 6th district can often observe the master seamstress at work, since Wagner's store is also her workshop.
