Review of R. Horn's in Vienna
Robert Horn has been manufacturing his elegant leather goods for over two decades. The antique-lovers who roam near his shop certainly know to appreciate his meticulous attention to detail. "These people have an eye for special things," Horn told us. However, even customers with less extravagant tastes are likely to fall in love with the selection of expertly-crafted purses and briefcases. The original store can be a challenge to find, as it is tucked away in a typical Viennese courtyard on the Bräunerstrasse. If you want to make it easy on yourself, the newest location is in a far more prominent spot right next to St. Stephen's Cathedral, while another outlet is near the Opera. In any of the three, you can immerse yourself in fine Italian leathers, silk linings, and rich colors which make for timeless accessories. It's no surprise that Robert Horn cites Viennese Modernists such as Adolf Loos, Otto Wagner, or artists from the Wiener Werkstätte as his inspirations. In his designs, functionality and a clean look are key, while quality and superior workmanship ensure that all of his products will stand the test of time. To guarantee durability, a special double-folded stitching technique is used to protect the raw edges of the leather. If this sounds like the thing for you, but you find yourself on the wrong side of the Atlantic, then be advised: R. Horn's chic accessories are also available in NYC's Neue Galerie.
