Review of Gotham in Barcelona
Gotham has been a pioneer of retro design in Spain ever since it opened in 1994, stocking the best in 20th-century design furniture and homeware. Owner Txema originally moved to Barcelona from his hometown of San Sebastián to study scenography, but soon started buying vintage furniture and other objects, until he’d built up a collection that simply had to be shared. Gotham occupies a spacious store near Barcelona Town Hall, in the Gothic Quarter, and is filled with furniture from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, each item in mint condition or carefully restored. Gotham’s design classics are complemented by authentic vintage ceramics, crockery and lights, all with their own unique charm. Look out for the little Japanese-style tables which Pedro Almodóvar picked out for his 2011 film, La Piel Que Habito.
