REVIEW
Edgy elegance may be the Eva Gentry signature. Or maybe it’s authoritative style. Either way there’s no mistaking the sophisticated look husband and wife team Eva and Dayton Gentry have been bringing to Brooklyn since 1998. Monochromatic minimalism hangs on the rails, like striking, draped day dresses by Rick Owens and Thakoon. The Gentrys favor the stoic minimalism of conceptualists like Martin Margiela along with quieter luxuries like the yielding softness of knits by Majestic. The minimal, white space works well to highlight the clothes with each piece begging to be examined more closely. The couple knows their client well, carefully editing colossal collections to pick out quality and luxury with a gothic edge. There’s a sense of biker style in sturdy boots by Ann Demeulemeester and the chain jewelry. It’s refreshing to see a store with an eye for avant-garde designers, and the skill to know to dilute their vision into elegant and effortless pieces to be worn forever.
