REVIEW
A Detacher owner Mona Kowalska is quite the fashion fixture. After opening her store in 1998, the designer has been consistently creating eclectic and unusual pieces for the artists, editors, and trendsetters of New York. Printed cotton smocks and jumpsuits are abstract without ever being silly. A purple and black cardigan takes on a modified zebra print. These are pieces made for the unconventional woman, one who doesn’t see fashion as the end-all, be-all but instead looks for atypical and fascinating pieces like an oversize stone color cotton jacket or wide leg jumpsuit that she’ll wear to an exhibit opening at the Gagosian gallery. Knits and leather goods are produced in Peru and add a sense of handcrafted allure to the small and unassuming boutique. The modern furnishing and spare décor all contribute to the aura of sophistication and unique understanding of fashion.
