Acclaimed chocolatier Paul A. Young opened his first boutique on quaint Camden Passage in 2006, creating a destination for Islington's sweet-toothed shoppers to head for a gourmet chocolate fix. His continued success has seen him open two further stores since – on Wardour Street in bustling Soho, and in the majestic surroundings of the Royal Exchange in Bank. Young originally trained as a pastry chef and worked for some of London's finest restaurants, so its no surprise that his stores have a similar air of refinement, and the decadent selection of chocolates, bars and brownies – all freshly made every day – is guaranteed to tempt foodies and amateur enthusiasts alike. Alongside the traditional artisan bars and chocolates, there are more adventurous treats on offer too: think Marmite, or peanut butter and jelly flavored truffles. Eccentric ingredients aside, Young's imaginative flavors extend to include delicate aromas such as rose petals, fennel, and black cardamon. For an instant fix, opt for the luxuriously rich hot chocolate, made as you like, with a selection of spices to add in yourself. Not a chocolate fan? The award-winning Sea-Salted Caramel comes highly recommended.
