The Peanut Vendor

What started out as an innocent holiday conversation quickly turned into a reality, when couple Becky Nolan and Barney Read swapped their previous careers to start The Peanut Vendor. Lifting the name of their shop from a 1920’s Cuban song, it opened its doors in 2008. Tucked away in a sweet little space in Newington Green, the vintage furniture and interiors shop is more than worth the short walk from Stoke Newington’s Church Street. The Peanut Vendor stocks an array of armchairs, Yorkshire yarn blankets, crockery and cupboards, along with a healthy dose of curious antiques to catch the eye – the late 17^th Century hobby horse in stock on this occasion is a particular doozy! Sourcing these original, quality pieces involves plenty of 3am rises to visit antique fairs across the UK and Europe, but the owners’ dedication to the art of buying is apparent. With handfuls of vintage records, playful prints and ceramics alongside the chunkier antiques on display, the couples’ original mantra of “working for ourselves and selling nice things” is going strong on both fronts.
